The Alto Street Project is a multiple family compound composed of six private residences ranging from small two bedroom/one bath units to larger three bedroom/two bath units. The design integrates one fully assessabled unit and two parking spaces per residence. Integrated public open space is in a communal corridor that links Alto Street with the Santa Fe River and is fairly contained to facilitate childrens' outdoor activities and provide the possibility for communal childcare responsibilities. Along with the public open space each residence has private open space with great attention paid during the design process to allow for both private activities and social interaction. The proposed design is compliant with all land use and historic district zoning guidelines. All six residences have been designed to LEED - Platinum certified by the United States Green Building Council and The proposed City of Santa Fe Green Building Code. The proposed design is intended to be respectful of the historic Alto streetscape and to contribute to the City of Santa Fe as a whole.
Sponsored by the City of Santa Fe, Enterprise Green Communities and the Enterprise New Mexico office. The objective of the competition is to design a multi-unit, residential housing compound on a ΒΌ acre city-owned vacant lot in downtown Santa Fe that will provide affordably-priced homes that complied with the new City of Santa Fe Green Building Code. NEEDBASED Inc collaborated with WAMO Studios on this project. |

This project involved the collaboration of four separate lease-holders to create a truly economic, social, and environmentally sustainable development in the urban core of the City of Santa Fe. The project is highly diverse with four live/work, a commercial green house supplying fresh produce to an attached cafe, retail, professional office spaces, and art studios. All facilities surround shared open space that contains playgrounds, park, and edible landscapes. The buildings and site plan are laid out to take advantage of solar gains to provide 90% of the developments heating load. All irrigation for the green house and landscaping is supplied through rain harvesting. |
